Tampa Airport Interchange (SR 60, from Cypress Street to North of Courtney Campbell Causeway)
Project Highlights
Client:
Parsons Brinckerhoff
Construction Cost: $192,789,217.65
Project Brief
This project primarily involves the reconstruction of SR 60 between Cypress Street and the Courtney Campbell Causeway.
This project includes new interchanges at the entrance and exit of Tampa International Airport, designed by URS (Spruce Street Interchange) and an interchange at Memorial Boulevard, Veterans Expressway and the Courtney Campbell Causeway, designed by PBS&J (Courtney Campbell Causeway Interchange). The Spruce Street Interchange will consist of a four-level bridge system and the Courtney Campbell Causeway Interchange will consist of a three-level bridge system. The separation of local and express traffic with collector/distributor (C/D) roads and express lanes in the interchange areas will help relieve current congestion and improve access to Tampa International Airport.
Included in the construction of this project will be new roadway lighting, new intersection signalization, new roadway signage, a freeway management system, landscaping and irrigation systems, new seawall on the north side of the Courtney Campbell Causeway and the construction of a new Approach Lighting System (ALS) bridge for Runway 18L/36R of Tampa International Airport.
In addition, this project consists of the relocation of numerous utilities and Joint Project Agreements (JPA) with TECO Peoples Gas, City of Tampa Water Department and the City of Tampa Wastewater Department. The aggressive construction schedule for this high profile project demands numerous days of night work with detours and lane closures to facilitate the construction of the various roadway and bridge elements.
It is the intent to construct this project with the least amount of impact as possible to the traveling public, adjacent businesses and Tampa International Airport. In the Departments’ effort to minimize these impacts, numerous bonus and incentive/disincentive activities have been made part of this contract to provide motivation to the Contractor for early completion of various project elements and the project as a whole.
The CEI selected by the Department for oversight of this project consists of a partnership between PB, URS and KCCS.
